Nokia Is The Champion of Android Updates Ahead of Samsung

While the camera and smartphone autonomy are often cited as the main arguments for buying, it is also important for many users that their mobile phone is well followed in terms of software.

Fragmentation on Android is a real problem, but some brands are more serious than others when it comes to offering updates to users.

Nokia Is The Smartphone Manufacturer That Offers The Latest Versions of Android

And according to a Counterpoint study, the champion of Android updates is Nokia. 96% of the smartphones of this brand sold since the third quarter of 2019 were powered by Android 9 Pie, the rest by Android 8.1 Oreo.

It’s not really a surprise. HMD, the group that acquired Nokia’s mobile division, has decided to opt for Android Stock,

which means that its smartphones use the pure version of Android without overlay, which requires less work. In addition, many models are part of the Android One program.

We then find Samsung in second place, with 89% of mobiles sold with Android 9 Pie over the period.

The graph below shows what we noticed: the manufacturer did not deign to switch its smartphones to Android 8.1 Oreo. The updated devices went directly from 8.0 to 9, and those whose tracking was abandoned remained blocked at 8.0. Xiaomi closed the podium.

Note that Google is not part of the study, but there was little interest in saying that of course it is the number 1 in software tracking.

OnePlus, which is also very good at this, has also been forgotten. Maybe because he doesn’t sell enough different smartphone models.

In any case, you should know that Oppo’s subsidiary is exemplary in this field. In fact, some OnePlus may receive the Android 10 update at the same time as the Pixels, or very soon thereafter.
